Everyone Succeeds

Today I’d like to share my termly update on the progress we are making as a school towards our current priorities and to ensure that we strive to achieve our vision that ‘Everyone Succeeds’.

We have targeted the most significant challenges since September and have formed our School Development Priorities.

You’ll find my updates at the foot of today’s Blog (and at this link) but first please the rest of this week’s news.

Cello Ensemble

I was delighted to be invited to hear our cello ensemble yesterday lunchtime at what was probably their final rehearsal together.

Alex Sells, George Haddock and Ieuan Noakes have been meeting to rehearse and play for almost the entirety of their time at this school. They have also performed at our annual Speech Day.

Their current teacher, Susanna Campbell, said, “The cello ensemble play to a high level with commitment and enthusiasm. They really are an exceptional asset and Olivia and I are very proud of what they have achieved”.

Maths Feast

Thank you and well done to Miss Cunningham and students who competed at the Further Mathematics Support Programme Maths Feast this week.

Miss Cunningham said, “Between our two teams we topped three out of the four rounds…but were beaten into second and third place by a very deserving team from Ivybridge Community College”.

She added, “ All good fun and some tricky maths”.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Mr Huq reports that all the bronze award teams on Dartmoor for their practice expedition and the silver award teams completing their assessed expedition returned home safely after a very successful weekend.

There are 44 gold award students doing their practice expedition this weekend.

Eggcellent Work!

Once again there were some eggcellent entries for Mrs Mintoft’s history egg competition.

Runners up were Daniel Atkin 7W with Elvis, Harry Berrow-Eggins 7N with Colonel Gaddafi, and a late entrant Sonny Davis 8C with Mikhail Gorbachev.

However the winner of the Easter egg for this year is James Derx 8P with his creation of Napoleon and Nelson and a battle scene of ships.

Well done to all who entered.

Sports Update

Well done to Matthew Newton who competed in the Devon County Indoor Athletics competition, winning a gold at triple jump, and silver in the hurdles. As a result he was selected to represent Devon at the Regional Indoor Athletics competition this month.

At the regionals he went on to win a silver in triple jump and silver with the relay team.

Sports Leaders

Two events for our Sports Leaders this week. Their support was much appreciated at the Cathedral Primary School sports day event and the Devon Cricket primary school festival.

Congratulations to the U16 and U14 teams who are both through to the final of the Devon Cup. The U16s beat Torquay Boys 4 – 0 and the U14 team claimed a 4 – 2 victory against the West Exe School.
