Thank you Mrs Saunders and Mr Gomez for co-ordinating another successful exchange event with our German partners.
Few schools run exchanges now and this is such a shame. The opportunities for learning and lasting global friendships are unique.
Mrs Saunders said, “We welcomed 20 students and their teachers from our partner school the Kopernikus Gymnasium in Rheine, NW Germany. The school’s Headteacher, Herr Mark Bauer, also came over for three days in order to get to know us better. During their stay, the German students were given a very informative tour of Plymouth by Mr Macleod, walked some of the Cornish coastal path, steered the tug boats in Plymouth Sound and finished with a sunny few hours on Dartmoor. On the last evening, German and English students had a competitive bowling competition! Some great friendships have been made and several of the DHSB students are planning to return to Germany to see their partners either in the summer or on the next exchange visit in November.”
You can also read the German report of the exchange on their school website.
A proud week of sporting success as our reputation for fielding tough, skilful teams across the range of disciplines develops.
Very well done to our U13 team who took part in the prestigious Rosslyn Park national school sevens tournament held in London.
The team reached the semi-finals – our best ever result.
This ends an outstanding season for the team having won both the Devon County Sevens and the 15-a-side Cup.
Our Year 10 football team played their national cup quarter-final v Haberdashers Aske’s Knights Academy in front of a home crowd on Monday. Although we lost the game 3-2 our boys can be proud of reaching the last eight in the country.
I’m delighted to report the first XI team has won all their Devon Wednesday League matches and finish the season as ‘Invincibles’ once more. I’m not sure this feat will ever be repeated. How wonderful for Mr Manley to equal Mr Grinsill’s crowning glory in his first season of management.
Mr Manley has also just heard his team will be promoted to the premier division.
Great news for our U13 Hockey team who were awarded the Plymouth Schools league title this week after winning nine of nine matches.
Lloyd Barron-Robinson had a great day out in London at the national indoor rowing championships coming home with a bronze medal (boat race relay).
Also in London this week were Mr Forte, Mr Shahin and students from the Learning Commons who found many inspiring spaces as they toured the Google offices.
DHSB students will have received their copy of DHSB Today this week. We hope you enjoy reading this before sharing with your family and friends.
We’re also establishing a new digital sports newsletter. The first edition, written by Val Needham and Sarah Cory, can be seen here.
